On the evening of December 12, 2009, the Long Beach community was shaken by the tragic death of 23-year-old Jesus Nava. Around 11:00 p.m., near the intersection of 11th Street and Orange Avenue, officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Nava suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
In the immediate aftermath, detectives began investigating the incident as a possible gang-related shooting. Jesus Nava's death marked the 34th homicide in Long Beach for the year 2009. At that time, police records indicated that out of these cases, 12 arrests had been made in connection with nine fatal shootings, all determined to be gang-related. Unfortunately, no arrests had been made in 21 other fatal shootings, including Nava's case. The community grappled with the rising violence and the challenges faced by law enforcement in solving these crimes. ...Read More
