A Routine Night Turns Tragic
On the evening of September 18, 1982, 64-year-old James Thorpe was performing his duties as the manager of Ferguson’s Sunoco gas station, located at 115 Riggs Road, NE, in Washington, D.C. The night seemed typical until approximately 11:45 PM, when two unidentified men entered the station. In a sudden and violent act, they shot Thorpe, leading to his untimely death. The assailants then stole money from the establishment and fled the scene, heading north on 1st Street.
