Discovery of the Crime Scene
On June 18, 1974, the serene environment of MacKerricher State Park, located just north of Fort Bragg in Mendocino County, California, was disrupted by a grim discovery. The lifeless body of 21-year-old Barry Kirk Pinder was found sprawled beneath a picnic table at his campsite. The scene was littered with empty beer cans and other debris, painting a chaotic picture of the previous night's events. An autopsy later confirmed that Pinder had suffered fatal blunt force trauma to his head and face, indicating a violent assault. A nearby piece of firewood was suspected to be the murder weapon.
Background of the Victim
Barry Kirk Pinder hailed from Maitland, Florida, and had been residing in the San Diego area prior to his untimely death. Born on June 12, 1953, in the Panama Canal Zone, he was the son of Samuel H.
