A Community Leader's Tragic End

In the early hours of August 25, 2010, the Atlanta LGBTQ+ community was shaken by the tragic death of 50-year-old Durand Robinson. As a co-owner of the popular nightclub Traxx and a key organizer of Atlanta's Black Gay Pride celebrations, Robinson was a well-known figure dedicated to fostering inclusivity and joy. His life was abruptly cut short when he was found lying in the middle of Hadlock Street in southwest Atlanta, a fatal gunshot wound to his chest. Residents reported hearing a commotion followed by a gunshot and the sound of a vehicle speeding away. Despite immediate investigations, the circumstances surrounding his death remain a mystery.

A Pillar of the LGBTQ+ Community

Robinson's contributions to Atlanta's LGBTQ+ scene were monumental. Through Traxx Atlanta, he organized events that provided safe spaces for Black LGBTQ+ individuals to celebrate their identities. His efforts were particularly evident during the annual Black Gay Pride Week, which he was actively planning in the days leading up to his death.
