A Tragic Night in Southeast D.C.
On December 27, 2006, at approximately 2:40 AM, the tranquility of Washington, D.C.'s 2600 block of Birney Place, SE, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Andrew Lamont Pugh was found fatally shot in front of 2651 Birney Place, SE. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded swiftly, but despite their efforts, the perpetrator remained elusive. The community was left in shock, grappling with the sudden loss of a resident under such violent circumstances.
The Immediate Aftermath
In the days following the murder, the MPD launched an intensive investigation. Detectives Elbert Griffin and Brett Smith were assigned to the case, seeking any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the suspect. Flyers detailing the incident were distributed throughout the neighborhood, urging witnesses to come forward.
