Introduction
In December 2023, the Alvarado family of Jersey City faced a parent's worst nightmare: the unexplained disappearance of their 18-year-old daughter, Hayley Erin "Lee" Alvarado. A promising freshman at Montclair State University, Hayley's sudden absence sparked a widespread search and an outpouring of community support. Tragically, after nearly three months, her body was discovered in Newark Bay near Bayonne, New Jersey, bringing a heartbreaking end to the search.
The Disappearance
On December 17, 2023, surveillance cameras captured Hayley leaving her family's home through the back door in the early morning hours. She had previously asked her 17-year-old brother for bus fare but did not disclose her intended destination. Notably, she left behind essential items, including her ID, ATM card, laptop, and tablet, and turned off her cellphone, making it difficult to trace her whereabouts. Her mother, Portia, recounted, "She left home through our backdoor as our CCTV showed, and when her dad checked on her room, he found out she was no longer there."
