A Night of Innocence Shattered
On February 17, 1974, 17-year-old Carla Walker, a vibrant high school junior and cheerleader from Western Hills High School in Fort Worth, Texas, attended a Valentine's Day dance with her boyfriend, Rodney McCoy, the school's quarterback. After the dance, the couple stopped by the Brunswick Ridglea Bowl to use the restroom. As they sat in McCoy's car in the parking lot, an unknown assailant abruptly opened the passenger door. The attacker pistol-whipped McCoy until he lost consciousness and abducted Carla as she screamed for help.
The Tragic Discovery
Three days later, on February 20, Carla's lifeless body was found in a culvert near Benbrook Lake, approximately 30 minutes south of Fort Worth. The autopsy revealed that she had been alive for two days following her abduction, during which she was brutally beaten, tortured, raped, and ultimately strangled to death.
