A Young Woman's Disappearance
In May 1987, 24-year-old Christine Lester, a member of the Navajo Nation, set out from her home in Indian Wells, Arizona, intending to hitchhike to the Flagstaff Mall. Her goal was to purchase gifts for Mother's Day, a gesture reflecting her loving nature. Hitchhiking was a common practice in the Navajo Nation at the time, and Christine assured her family she would return by the end of the day. Tragically, she never made it back, and her sudden disappearance left her family and community in anguish.
The Grim Discovery
Sixteen days after Christine went missing, authorities in Madera County, California, discovered the body of an unidentified woman on the side of a rural road. With no identification and limited forensic technology available at the time, the case went cold.
