Nikiski, Alaska, a small, tight-knit community on the Kenai Peninsula, is known for its serene landscapes and close community ties. However, the tranquility of this town was disrupted in early 2025 when 58-year-old resident Jay De Jearl Owen was reported missing. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance have left residents and authorities searching for answers in a case that remains unsolved.
Jay Owen was last seen on January 13, 2025. His disappearance was officially documented in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System under case number MP140544. At the time he went missing, Owen was described as a white male, 73 inches tall, weighing approximately 200 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. The Alaska State Troopers, the primary agency handling the case, have been actively investigating his disappearance, but as of now, no significant leads have been reported.
Prior to his disappearance, Owen had been involved in a criminal incident that may or may not be related to his current status. On November 15, 2023, Alaska State Troopers responded to a burglary report in Nikiski. Upon arrival, they discovered that Owen and 45-year-old Heather Walton had broken a back window to enter a building, stealing numerous items. Owen was found to be under the influence of drugs at the time and was in possession of drug paraphernalia and a handgun. He was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary, fourth-degree theft, fourth-degree criminal mischief, and fourth-degree misconduct involving weapons. Both Owen and Walton were remanded at the Wildwood Pretrial Facility.
Despite the efforts of law enforcement, Owen's whereabouts remain unknown. The Alaska State Troopers have been working diligently to uncover any information that could lead to his discovery. They have urged anyone with information about Owen's disappearance to come forward. The case remains open, and authorities continue to follow up on any leads that may arise....Read More
