A Quiet Morning in Bethel

On May 19, 2001, John Paul Edwards, a 30-year-old Alaska Native man, departed from Pilot Station, a small community along the Kuskokwim River in western Alaska. He was last seen riding a 1996 Skandic Ski-Doo snowmachine, heading downstream toward Bethel. Dressed in tan overalls and a black hat, John was familiar with the river and the region’s unpredictable spring conditions. His journey was expected to be routine. However, he never arrived at his destination, and no trace of him or his snowmachine has been found since.

A Life Rooted in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta

Born on February 6, 1971, John Edwards was a member of the Alaska Native community. He stood 5'6" tall, weighed approximately 140 pounds, and had black hair and brown eyes.
