A Life Shaped by the Sea
Born on April 16, 1980, in Olympia, Washington, Darrik Monroe Seibold was a man whose life was intrinsically tied to the ocean. He spent his formative years exploring the natural beauty of Olympia and Southeast Alaska, cultivating a deep-seated passion for the sea. As a teenager, he began his fishing career, working in the Dungeness crab fishery and later joining the Bristol Bay salmon fleet. His dedication and skill eventually led him to the Bering Sea crab industry, where he became a valued crew member aboard the F/V Destination.
The Fateful Voyage
In February 2017, the 110-foot Seattle-based crab fishing vessel, Destination, set sail from Dutch Harbor in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. The crew comprised six men: Captain Jeffrey Hathaway and crew members Darrik Seibold, Kai Hamik, Charles "Glenn" Jones, Lawrence "Larry" O'Grady, and Raymond Vincler.
