A Promising Life Interrupted
Lindsay Elaine McCollum, born and raised in Patterson, California, was a vibrant young woman with a passion for dance, piano, and literature. Her mother, Carrie, fondly recalls Lindsay's ability to devour a 300-page book in a single day and her love for playing "Canon in D" and "My Heart Will Go On" on the piano. Despite her talents and a supportive family, Lindsay faced challenges with heroin addiction and mental health, leading her to periods of homelessness in San Francisco. Drawn to the city's eclectic vibe and thrift shops, she sought solace in its streets, accompanied by her loyal pit bull, Lily.
A Fateful Encounter
During her time on the streets, Lindsay formed a bond with Eddie "Tennessee" Tate, a 51-year-old man well-known within San Francisco's homeless community. Eddie was resourceful, often assisting others with bike repairs and various fixes from his makeshift wooden shelter. Together, they created a semblance of home inside a wooden box on the northwest corner of 16th Street and South Van Ness Avenue in the Mission District.
