The Morning of February 19, 2002
In the early hours of February 19, 2002, tranquility was shattered at 1905 Orca Street in Anchorage, Alaska. Around 6 a.m., an intruder broke into the residence where 40-year-old Richard James Carns was staying. Awakened by the disturbance, Carns confronted the intruder, leading to a violent altercation. The assailant drew a firearm and fatally shot Carns, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene. This brutal act not only ended Carns' life but also left the community grappling with fear and unanswered questions.
The Immediate Aftermath
Following the murder, Anchorage Police launched an intensive investigation. Witnesses described the suspect as an African American male in his mid-20s, of average height and build. Despite this description, the assailant managed to evade capture, leaving law enforcement with limited leads.
