Discovery of the Crime Scene
On the evening of July 19, 2019, the tranquility of the 1100 block of Queen Street NE in Washington, D.C., was shattered by a grim discovery. Responding to a call from a concerned family member, Metropolitan Police Department officers arrived at a residence to find 57-year-old Hugh Washington and his 17-year-old son, Ahkii Washington-Scruggs, unresponsive and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, marking the beginning of a complex and heart-wrenching investigation.
The Victims: A Father and Son Remembered
Hugh Washington was a long-time resident of Northeast D.C., known for his dedication to his family and community. His son, Ahkii Washington-Scruggs, was a promising student and athlete at Dunbar High School. Friends and teammates described Ahkii as a talented football player and a budding writer with a bright future ahead.
