A Sunday Service Turns Fatal
On August 26, 2018, the congregation of Elim Baptist Church in Louisville's Parkland neighborhood gathered for their usual Sunday service. As the service concluded around 1:20 p.m., 43-year-old Bennie Berry, a devoted member of the church, exited the building and made his way toward his car. Tragically, before he could reach his vehicle, Berry was shot in the 3200 block of Greenwood Avenue. Despite being rushed to the University of Louisville Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries, marking a devastating day for his family and community.
A Life Remembered
Berry was more than just a church member; he was a father and a pillar in his community. He is survived by his children: Emonie, Bennie Jr., Brianna, Peyton, and Kyilee Berry. His parents, Deborah and Bennie Lightsy Jr., and his wife, Sarah Williams, also mourn his loss.
