A Routine Sunday in Sunizona
On May 23, 1993, the small community of Sunizona, Arizona, was the backdrop for a routine that would tragically become anything but ordinary. Dorothy Jeanne Pitcher, 47, and her 14-year-old daughter, Danielle Therese Pitcher, attended church that Sunday morning, as was their custom. After the service, they embarked on a familiar three-mile walk to The RV Park Store, located at the intersection of Highway 666 (now Highway 191) and Highway 181, to purchase cigarettes for Dorothy's husband and enjoy ice cream cones. Their home lacked a telephone, so they also made a call from the store's pay phone before starting their journey back.
The Last Known Sightings
As Dorothy and Danielle walked home along Highway 181, they were spotted by friends driving by near the intersection of State Route 181 and 191.
