In the early hours of November 21, 2016, the quiet of New Orleans' Mid-City neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) responded to reports of multiple shots fired and discovered 29-year-old Kharen Chapman lying in the middle of the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The shooting began in the 3200 block of Palmyra Street and concluded in the 300 block of South Jefferson Davis Parkway, indicating a chaotic and violent sequence of events.
Kharen Chapman was more than just a name in a police report. He was a beloved son, brother, and friend. Born to Deidre Carraby and Dwayne Chapman, Kharen was also cherished by his step-parents, Kevin Carraby and Eleanor Chapman. He shared a close bond with his siblings, Keyauna McGee and Keinan Chapman, and was a devoted uncle and godfather. His family and friends remember him for his warm heart and the joy he brought into their lives.
Despite the efforts of the NOPD, Kharen Chapman's murder remains unsolved. The lack of witnesses and physical evidence has made it difficult for investigators to identify suspects or establish a clear motive. The case has since been listed among the cold cases in Orleans Parish, highlighting the challenges law enforcement faces in solving such crimes.
Kharen's death sent shockwaves through the New Orleans community, particularly among those who knew and loved him. His funeral, held at Charbonnet Labat Glapion Funeral Home, was attended by numerous family members, friends, and community members who came together to mourn his loss and celebrate his life. The tragedy also sparked conversations about gun violence and the need for community engagement in preventing such incidents. ...Read More
