A Life Cut Short in Tom Brown Village
On the evening of February 2, 2017, the quiet of Birmingham's Tom Brown Village was shattered by gunfire. At approximately 7:22 p.m., 37-year-old Antwon Hawkins was shot multiple times in the chest in the 4100 block of 5th Court North. Despite the prompt arrival of emergency responders, Hawkins succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The Birmingham Police Department initiated a homicide investigation, but no suspects were immediately identified, and the case remains unsolved to this day.
A Family Reeling from Double Tragedy
The murder of Antwon Hawkins was not an isolated incident for his family. Just four months prior, on October 9, 2016, his first cousin, 23-year-old Rakim Hawkins, was fatally shot in the Kingston neighborhood of Birmingham.
