Earl Hughes, a 24-year-old man, was fatally shot on October 30, 2007, in Chicago, Illinois. The incident took place on the city’s West Side and was reported as a homicide. Hughes was notably the older brother of Robert Hughes, a freshman running back for the University of Notre Dame at the time. The tragedy received some public attention because of Robert Hughes' connection to the football team, prompting his coach to grant him an indefinite leave to grieve with his family.
