A robbery gone awry....
On the morning of February 2, 2008, 33-year-old white female Carrie Hudek Chiuso of Frankfort, Illinois, was tragically killed during a mass shooting at a Lane Bryant clothing store in the Brookside Marketplace of Tinley Park, Illinois. Carrie, a dedicated high school counselor at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, was known for her vibrant personality and commitment to helping teens. She was married to Anthony Chiuso and was a beloved daughter, sister, and aunt.
At approximately 10:00 a.m., a man posing as a delivery driver entered the store. Shortly thereafter, he revealed a. 40-caliber Glock handgun and announced a robbery. He forced six women—two employees and four customers—into a back room, where he bound their hands and feet with duct tape and forced them to lie face down. The assailant then shot all six women, killing five, including Carrie. One woman survived a gunshot wound to her neck by playing dead until the gunman left.
The suspect was described as a Black male, approximately 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall, with a husky build and broad shoulders. He had medium to dark skin, cornrowed hair with a receding hairline, and a single braid adorned with green beads hanging over his right cheek. He was wearing black jeans with a rhinestone "G" on the back pockets, a dark gray cap, and a dark jacket.
Despite extensive investigations, including over 7,500 tips and leads, the perpetrator has never been identified, and no arrests have been made. A $100,000 reward remains available for information leading to the arrest of the killer. The case remains one of the most haunting unsolved crimes in the Chicago area.
