Errol Grant, aged 25, was shot and killed on July 12, 2011, in Chicago's South Side. The homicide occurred in the Roseland neighborhood, an area that had experienced significant violence during that year. Grant was standing near the 200 block of West 110th Street when a gunman approached and fired at him multiple times. He sustained critical injuries and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
