On August 15, 2012, just after midnight, Louis L.C. Charles Robinson III, a 39 year old Black man, was standing on a South Shore sidewalk with a 59-year-old acquaintance when gunfire cracked through the quiet of the 7500 block of South Kingston Avenue. The shots came without warning. Robinson was struck in the face; the older man was hit in the leg.
