Vincent Mayes, aged 31, was shot and killed on June 21, 2013, in Chicago, Illinois. The incident took place in Garfield Park, one of the neighborhoods particularly affected by gun violence in 2013. Mayes was found with gunshot wounds to his head and abdomen. His death marked the first homicide of the official first day of summer, which saw a significant rise in violence that included three fatalities and eleven injuries across the city.
