Keith Sutton, aged 24, was shot and killed on October 16, 2013, in Chicago, Illinois. The shooting took place earlier on June 2, 2013, in Galewood Park, located in the Austin neighborhood on the city's West Side. According to reports, Craig Bryan, 23, of Oak Park, followed Sutton through the park around 10 a.m. before shooting him in the head and back. Sutton fought for his life for months, succumbing to his injuries on October 16, while receiving care at Westlake Community Hospital hospice.
Bryan was initially arrested and charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm in August of that year. However, following Sutton’s death, the charges were upgraded to murder. Bryan remained in Cook County Jail without bond pending further legal proceedings. The homicide underscored the ongoing issue of violence in Chicago’s neighborhoods, particularly the West Side, which has been significantly affected by gun violence and gang-related activities.
