On June 6, 2021, first responders were called to the scene of what was initially believed to be a motorcycle accident at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Coal Avenue. However, upon their arrival, they discovered that Romero was suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically, he was pronounced deceased upon arrival.
Joe, born on February 9, 1998, was a young man with a love for life. He had a passion for driving and the freedom of riding his motorcycle. He was also known to have an interest in firearms. Described as a pleasure to be around, he was an animal lover with a big heart, especially for children, and he looked forward to one day having a family of his own. He was known for his warm hugs and for always ending conversations with "I love you." A memorial ride with a convoy of motorcycles was held by the community to honor his memory and his love for riding.
