On May 5, 2003, Kendra Sarie James, a 21-year-old African-American mother of two, was fatally shot by a Portland Police officer in Portland, Oregon. The incident occurred during an early morning traffic stop when Officer Rick Bean pulled over a car for failing to stop at a stop sign.
