Samantha Teeter, a 19-year-old resident of Mason City, Iowa, passed away on December 4, 2016, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Her death was the result of a shooting incident.

The investigation into her death led to the arrest and charging of 60-year-old Larry Whaley. Whaley was originally charged with attempted murder on December 2, 2016, but after Teeter's death, the charges were upgraded. He was accused of using a handgun to shoot Teeter.
