On the night of April 5, 2019, an 18-year-old Black / African American female named Sakira Bonner was found lying in the middle of a street in West Des Moines, Iowa. A passerby discovered her near the intersection of South 64th Street and Coachlight Drive after reports of shots fired in the area. Emergency services responded and transported her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. It was later revealed that she had been shot three times.
