Mario Cousins, a 20-year-old resident of Chicago, was shot and killed on August 24, 2016, in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. This neighborhood, like many others on Chicago's west side, has been heavily impacted by the escalating wave of gun violence in recent years. Cousins’ tragic death occurred during what was a particularly deadly period for the city.
