In the late summer of 2014, the city of Little Rock, Arkansas, was rocked by a grim discovery that began with a house fire. On August 29th, emergency responders were dispatched to a residence on South Spring Street to battle a blaze. Inside the home, they found the bodies of 29-year-old Charity Hall, a Black female, and 41-year-old David Murphy. The initial belief that the two had perished in the fire took a dark turn when autopsies revealed a more sinister cause of death.
Both Hall and Murphy had been fatally shot before the fire was intentionally set, leading authorities to investigate the case as a double homicide.
The investigation into the brutal slayings soon pointed to a primary suspect: 31-year-old Ray C. Davis Jr., who also went by the name 'Ray Deuce.' It was discovered that Davis had been living at the residence with David Murphy but had been forced to leave shortly before the murders occurred due to accusations of theft. With a motive seemingly established, the Little Rock Police Department issued two capital murder warrants for his arrest. The search for Davis spanned several weeks and crossed state lines.
The manhunt for Ray C. Davis Jr. concluded on October 6, 2014, when he was located and apprehended in San Antonio, Texas. Following his capture, he was extradited back to Arkansas to face the charges brought against him for the deaths of Charity Hall and David Murphy. The arrest brought a sense of resolution to the families of the victims and the community, as the man believed to be responsible for the violent deaths was now in custody, awaiting justice for the crimes he was accused of committing.
