On July 5, 2017, Desmond Davis, a 25-year-old resident of West Memphis, Arkansas, was fatally shot on North 28th Street. The incident also resulted in the injury of his mother, who was struck by a bullet but survived. Authorities identified two suspects in connection with the crime: 17-year-old Malik Macklin and 18-year-old Derrick Brown. Both were charged with first-degree murder and first-degree battery.
