Do you know what happened to Henok Woldu?
In the pre-dawn hours of Christmas Eve in 2015, the life of 26-year-old Henok Woldu was tragically cut short in Phoenix, Arizona. At approximately 4:32 a.m. on December 24th, Phoenix Police responded to reports of shots fired in the area of 4427 N. 27th Avenue. Upon their arrival, they discovered Henok Woldu deceased inside his vehicle, the victim of a fatal shooting.
A hardworking man known within the Ethiopian community, Woldu held two jobs to support his family, one transporting passengers in wheelchairs at the airport and another at a convenience market. His death left a void in a community that knew him as a dedicated and engaged individual. Investigators have indicated that there is no evidence to suggest he was involved in any illicit activities, portraying him as an innocent man trying to make a living.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing two Black men and a Black woman fleeing the area shortly after the gunshots. They were observed getting into a smaller, dark-colored SUV and leaving the location. Despite these initial leads, no arrests have been made in the years following the incident.
The case remains an unsolved homicide, a painful memory for Woldu's family, especially as the anniversary of his death falls on a holiday. Phoenix Police have continued to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the investigation and bring justice to the family of Henok Woldu. Authorities have urged anyone who may have seen something that morning, no matter how insignificant it might seem, to come forward.
