In the early morning hours of October 30, 2021, the life of 30-year-old Xavier Alexander Malone, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Gunshots echoed in the 200 block of Chesnut around 4:30 a.m., prompting a call to dispatch. When officers from the Jonesboro Police Department arrived at Malone's residence, they discovered him inside, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.
The investigation into the suspected homicide began immediately.
By that evening, detectives had identified a person of interest, and an arrest was made in connection with the fatal shooting. Robert Clark, a 31-year-old resident of Jonesboro, was taken into custody around 5:40 p.m. on the same day as the incident. He was subsequently booked into the Craighead County Detention Center.
Clark faced a charge of First Degree Murder for his alleged role in Xavier Malone's death. The swift arrest brought a suspect into custody, though the circumstances leading up to the deadly encounter inside Malone's home were not immediately made public by authorities. The case was then set to proceed through the justice system with a probable cause hearing scheduled for the following Monday.
