On January 23, 2017, Jamayah Fields, a 20-year-old woman, was fatally shot in Chicago's Austin neighborhood. The incident occurred near an elementary school, adding to the string of gun violence that plagued Chicago that year. Fields was among several victims in a day where multiple shootings across the city left three people dead and twelve others wounded.
