On November 25, 2024, 28-year-old Kahnayee Beard was fatally shot while walking on a sidewalk in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood.

Prior to his death, Beard had multiple encounters with law enforcement. In 2023, he was arrested by the Chicago Police Department on charges including the issuance of a warrant.

In February 2024, Beard faced another arrest by the Chicago Police Department, this time for unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
