On March 29, 2023, at approximately 10:30 p.m., 57-year-old Delondo Bellamy was fatally shot while driving in the 300 block of Van Buren Avenue in Oakland's Adams Point neighborhood. Despite his injuries, Bellamy managed to drive onto Interstate 580, where he ultimately succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Bellamy's death revealed a complex relationship between him and the suspect, 53-year-old William Lusk.
The two were reportedly friends involved in illicit activities, including drug and firearm sales, with alleged connections to a drug cartel. Lusk is accused of using a cellphone application to disguise his identity, luring Bellamy to a predetermined location under false pretenses. He allegedly rented a van from an Elk Grove rental shop to facilitate the crime.
In May 2023, Lusk was arrested in Jacksonville, Florida, for possession of a pound of cocaine and distribution quantities of fentanyl. During his arrest, he reportedly informed authorities about his friend's recent murder in Oakland, which led investigators to connect him to Bellamy's death.
Following his arrest, Lusk was charged with Bellamy's murder. The case has highlighted the dangers associated with illicit drug and firearm trades, as well as the complexities of relationships entangled in criminal activities. Bellamy's family, including his son David, sought justice and closure, with David initiating a GoFundMe campaign to raise a reward for information leading to his father's killer.
