On June 19, 2023, David Schneider, a 60-year-old resident of Oakland's Maxwell Park neighborhood, was fatally shot while performing yard work outside his home on Camden Street near MacArthur Boulevard. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. as Schneider was on a ladder trimming his hedges. After being shot in the back, he managed to stagger to a neighbor's house, where he collapsed and was later pronounced dead by arriving first responders.
