Jacqueline 'GranGran' Rhodes, a 63-year-old woman, was tragically shot and killed on the porch of her home in Lebanon, Tennessee, on the evening of July 21, 2023. Remembered fondly by her family as a loving grandmother to twelve and great-grandmother to four, Rhodes was a central figure in her family and community, known for her generosity and caring nature.

The incident unfolded when Lebanon Police responded to a call about a person with a gun. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man in the front yard. Bodycam footage revealed that as an officer instructed the man to raise his hands, he instead drew a weapon and fired at Jacqueline Rhodes, who was on her porch. In response, a Lebanon police officer fired at the suspect, injuring him.

The alleged shooter was identified as Jacqueline's next-door neighbor. Family members reported a history of conflict with the neighbor, including the use of racial slurs. They believe that complaints made to the housing authority about his behavior were not adequately addressed and that the tragedy could have been prevented. The family has expressed their profound grief and are seeking justice for Jacqueline.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has taken charge of the investigation into both the death of Jacqueline Rhodes and the officer-involved shooting. The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. As of the immediate aftermath of the incident, his name had not been publicly released by the TBI, and information regarding formal charges and the current status of the case is pending the ongoing investigation. The community has come together to support the Rhodes family, holding a candlelight vigil to honor her memory.
