On December 5, 2023, 61-year-old Roy Haynes was discovered deceased inside an apartment on McLemore Street in Brownsville, Tennessee. An investigation by the Brownsville Police Department determined that Haynes had been the victim of a homicide, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound on the previous day, December 4, 2023.
As the investigation progressed, authorities identified Richard West, also 61 years old and a resident of North McLemore, as a suspect in the case. According to court filings, the motive for the killing was robbery, as Haynes was known to carry large amounts of cash. The investigation suggested that the act was premeditated and planned in advance.
On December 16, 2023, the Brownsville Police Department secured warrants for West's arrest on charges of first-degree murder and especially aggravated assault. The following day, on December 17, 2023, Richard West turned himself in to the authorities. He is currently incarcerated as the legal proceedings in the case continue.
