In the early morning hours of June 3, 2023, the life of 26-year-old Najee Hawkins, a Black male from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, was tragically cut short. Hawkins was found with a gunshot wound in the 2300 block of West 7th Street. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Hattiesburg Police Department swiftly launched a homicide investigation into his death.
