On a late November day in 2023, the life of 27-year-old Reshun Goudy of Collins, Mississippi, was tragically cut short. The male victim was one of two men killed in a double homicide on November 25, 2023, in a rural area on Jones Chapel Road, situated between Collins and Taylorsville, Mississippi. The violent incident that claimed Goudy's life, and that of his friend, 25-year-old D'Andre 'Peanut' Ducksworth of Atlanta, is believed to have taken place at an organized dogfighting event.
Reports from the Covington County Sheriff's Department indicate that both Goudy and Ducksworth sustained single gunshot wounds to the head. Following the shooting, the two men were transported to a nearby hospital in the back of a pickup truck, where they were officially pronounced dead shortly after noon. The gathering where the fatal shots were fired was reportedly attended by a large crowd of 50 to 60 individuals, with some traveling from other parts of Mississippi and even out of state to be there. Despite the number of potential witnesses, law enforcement officials have stated that no one has come forward claiming to have been at the scene of the crime.
As of late December 2023, the investigation into the murders of Reshun Goudy and D'Andre Ducksworth was ongoing, but no arrests had been made. The weapon used in the killings had also not been recovered. Authorities have been conducting interviews with individuals across the state and country in an effort to piece together the events of that day. While law enforcement had not officially named any persons of interest, family and friends of the victims have mentioned two potential suspects they believe may be involved: a truck driver from a town approximately 40 miles north of the incident and another man from New Orleans.
In an effort to generate leads, Animal Wellness Action and the Center for a Humane Economy have offered a reward of up to $5,000. This reward is for any information that leads to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the individuals responsible for the deaths of Goudy and Ducksworth, as well as information about those who organized the alleged dogfighting event. The community of Collins has been deeply affected by the loss of the two young men, who were both remembered as talented high school football players for the Collins High School Tigers.
