Isabella Ana Bewley, an 18-year-old resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, tragically lost her life on February 19, 2023. Initially reported as a possible overdose, the incident quickly turned into a homicide investigation when Albuquerque Police Department officers responded to a call at 5327 Montgomery Blvd., N.E., shortly after 2 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals who had died from gunshot wounds.
The second deceased individual was identified as William James, aged 21.
APD's preliminary investigation indicated that the incident appeared to be a case of domestic violence resulting in a murder-suicide. It is believed that James shot and killed Bewley before taking his own life.
Isabella, affectionately known as Bella or Izzy, was born on April 22, 2004, and was raised by her grandparents, Kathy and Henrique Valdovinos, in Albuquerque. She was described as a beautiful soul who loved music, animals, and championed the underdog. At the age of eight, Bella was baptized at Citizen Church by Pastor Galen Woodward.
No arrests were made in connection with this case, as both individuals involved were found deceased at the scene. The investigation was ongoing at the time of the initial reports, but authorities believed it to be a closed case of murder-suicide.
Isabella's untimely passing deeply affected her loved ones and the community. Her obituary described her as having a transparent heart and an underlying sweetness that she reserved for those close to her. She was remembered as a ray of light and a special soul who was called to be with the Lord too early for those who knew and loved her.
