On April 5, 2023, Juneanne Fannell, an 82-year-old resident of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, was tragically shot and killed in her home. Just hours before her death, Fannell had expressed fears for her safety to responding police officers. Her caretaker, Henry Cardana, had called 911 claiming that Fannell was 'uncontrollable' and needed to be removed from her home. During the call, Fannell communicated her sense of danger and specifically mentioned Cardana's firearms.
