Michelle Coleman, a 21-year-old African American woman and nursing student at Florida A&M University, was fatally shot on July 6, 2009, during a birthday party in the Overtown neighborhood of Miami, Florida. The incident occurred when three armed men, dressed in black, opened fire on the crowd at approximately 12:45 a.m., injuring 12 individuals.
