Ernest Martin Cline, an 83-year-old male resident of Bowling Green, Kentucky, was found deceased in his home on August 25, 2024. The Kentucky State Police were called to the residence on The Bridge Road in the Wingfield area of Edmonson County at approximately 12:30 a.m. to assist the local sheriff's office with a report of a deceased elderly man. Upon investigation, it was determined that Cline had died from a shooting.
He was discovered in his bed.
The investigation into the death of Ernest Cline led to the arrest of Damien Worrell, an 18-year-old from Bowling Green. Troopers with the Kentucky State Police apprehended Worrell and charged him with murder and first-degree robbery. Authorities believe that Worrell robbed and shot Cline. Following his arrest, Worrell was lodged in the Hart County Detention Center and is being held without bond. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Known for his love of farming, hunting, fishing, and camping, Ernest Cline was described by those who knew him as having a good heart and being willing to help others. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Patricia Scarbrough Cline. He is survived by his four children, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. In accordance with his wishes, no funeral services were scheduled, and he was to be cremated.
