In a quiet apartment complex in New Haven, Indiana, a grim discovery unfolded on the afternoon of Monday, June 3, 2024, ending in the tragic death of Kirk Thomas Willinger. The 61-year-old white male was found deceased inside an apartment in what authorities have described as a murder-suicide. His death, caused by multiple gunshot wounds, has been ruled a homicide, marking the 16th such case in Allen County for the year.
The investigation began after a maintenance worker at the Canal
Place Circle apartments peered inside and saw a man lying on the floor. Responding to the call around 4:15 p.m., New Haven police officers were met with a locked door. After forcing their way inside, they found Mr. Willinger and pronounced him dead at the scene.
Further investigation within the apartment led officers to a locked bedroom. Inside, they discovered a woman who had died from what appeared to be a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound. While her identity has not been publicly released, authorities are confident that she was responsible for Mr. Willinger's death before taking her own life.
