Earl Gregory Carter Jr., age 22, was shot and killed on December 26, 2012, in Jacksonville, Florida. The incident took place while Earl was waiting for a ride with friends outside his mother's home on W. 25th Street. Earl, who was home from college for the holidays, was enjoying time with family before he planned to return to Tallahassee to continue his studies as a pharmacy technician.
According to witnesses, a young man from the neighborhood approached the group, and soon after, an unknown vehicle pulled up. The occupants opened fire on the group, seemingly targeting the young man who had just joined them. Unfortunately, Earl was the only person struck by the gunfire and he succumbed to his injuries the following day. Despite multiple witnesses at the scene, no one has yet been identified as responsible for the shooting.
Earl’s family has been actively seeking answers for over a decade, hoping for justice that has thus far been elusive. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has continued to appeal for information from the public in the hopes of making progress on this cold case. Individuals with knowledge of the case are encouraged to contact the Sheriff's Office or First Coast Crime Stoppers, which has offered a reward for any tips leading to an arrest in connection to Earl's death. The family and investigators continue their pursuit of closure in this tragedy, and they rely on community assistance to help solve the case.
