On December 10, 2014, 16-year-old Devron Crowden was fatally shot while waiting at his bus stop in Jacksonville, Florida. The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of 13th Street and Canal Street. Crowden's mother had just dropped him off at the bus stop so that he could catch the bus to Raines High School, where he was a student.
Devron, affectionately known as "Big Baby," was also actively involved in the Grand Park Athletic Association, playing football and being part of the local community.
On that tragic morning, neighbors reported hearing as many as 15 gunshots, and police arriving at the scene found Devron lying in the road with multiple gunshot wounds. His body was surrounded by numerous shell casing markers, a chilling reminder of the violence that had taken place. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office immediately began investigating the shooting, canvassing the neighborhood to gather information and interview potential witnesses. Despite these efforts, no suspects were identified, and the case remains unsolved.
In response to this tragedy, the Grand Park community came together, expressing their grief and frustration over the violence that continues to affect their area. A small prayer group gathered near the bus stop, while local residents and community leaders, like Pastor David Bennett and Beverly McClain of Families of Slain Children, called for unity and action to address the persistent issues of violence. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that even the smallest detail could help bring justice for Devron and closure to his grieving family.
