On June 9, 2016, 32-year-old Aaron Cogdell was found dead from gunshot wounds outside his home in the Lackawanna neighborhood on Jacksonville's Westside. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m., when reports of gunfire led authorities to the 2700 block of Fleming Street. Cogdell, a father of eight, was tragically shot in his front doorway. Despite efforts from law enforcement, including the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, no suspects were identified, and the case remains unsolved.
The investigation has been hindered by the "code of silence" within the community, which has prevented potential witnesses from coming forward with information.
