In the small town of Blanding, Utah, the lives of two men, including William Drew Bull, a 29-year-old Caucasian male, were cut short in a harrowing double homicide. Bull and his friend, 28-year-old Christopher Alan Owens, were last seen alive on February 25, 2024, at a local Maverik convenience store. The two were reported missing on February 27, sparking an investigation that would soon unravel a disturbing story of betrayal and violence.
Concerns for the men grew when friends and family were unable to contact them. Bull, who was known to be responsive and regularly shared his location with his significant other, had abruptly stopped all communication. Similarly, Owens, an active social media user, fell silent. The investigation quickly focused on their roommate and landlord, 35-year-old Charles Youngkuom Yoo. Friends of the missing men reported strange interactions with Yoo in the days following their disappearance. One friend received a suspicious text message from Bull's phone on February 27, which was later determined to have been sent from the vicinity of the home the three men shared. At the time, Yoo was the only person at the residence.
As the investigation intensified, law enforcement executed a search warrant on the shared residence. The search uncovered evidence that pointed towards a violent crime, and the case was officially termed a homicide investigation. Yoo was initially arrested on March 8 for obstruction of justice. Subsequently, on March 22, the bodies of Bull and Owens were recovered by law enforcement. The cause of death for both men was determined to be gunshot wounds.
Following the discovery of the bodies, Charles Yoo was charged with two counts of aggravated murder and one count of obstructing justice. Later, two additional charges of abuse or desecration of a human body were filed against him. In a significant development, Yoo pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated murder. In his plea statement, he admitted to shooting and killing both Bull and Owens, then placing their bodies in military-style tote containers and hiding them in the desert. The bullets and fragments recovered from the victims' bodies were matched to one of Yoo's guns.
